This week Millie started working through Singapore Math with Tom. We're starting with the Earlybird 1A edition, which feels quite simple to start, but we figured that it would be better to build up some confidence initially . She and Tom did three sessions this week and had a lot of fun.
We're using some Kumon workbooks to practice handwriting. This is a pretty weak area for Millie, and I can already see her getting frustrated with it, so I imagine working through these books this year will be a rather slow process.
We read the first couple of chapters in The Story of the World. Millie was very excited about the archaeology chapter, and we found a neat website that provided a nice age-appropriate activity for both Millie and Silas. Here you can find photographs of various artifacts and then coloring pages that correspond to the photographs. The kids had fun coloring the artifacts, then cutting them out and hiding them around the house so that they could "dig them up" later. We also checked out some archaeology books from the library.
In addition to this we did our normal Bible reading at breakfast, along with lots of other reading during the day. Not a bad first week of dabbling in a bit of structure at the kindergarten level.
