All sorts of random squash plants have taken over my garden. And it wouldn't be so strange if these were things that I had planted myself. But they're not. Instead these are some hearty volunteers that have sprouted from whatever seeds went into my compost last fall. And these are some amazingly vigorous plants, having spread throughout two of my 4x12 foot boxes, and now climbing their way up to the top of 6-foot trellises.

And this one has me stumped, but right now it's reminding me a lot of delicata squash:
So those are all the unknowns in my garden right now. And I think the lesson for next year is to proceed with caution if any squash plants randomly spring up uninvited.
